Images that raise
funds and change minds

Covenant House California provides shelter, services, and support to young people experiencing homelessness across Los Angeles, one of the most critical youth-serving organizations in the state.

For a nonprofit of Covenant House California's scale and mission, photography isn't a nice-to-have, it's infrastructure. The images that come out of an event have to work immediately: posted to social media while the moment is still live, distributed to press the same day, and sharp enough to run in a news piece or an Instagram grid without a second look.

When Covenant House California needed coverage for two landmark moments, the ribbon cutting of their new facility opening with city council members and community leaders in attendance, and their annual Sleep Out fundraiser, they needed a studio that could deliver images fast enough to keep pace with their communications team, and strong enough to represent an organization doing serious, vital work.

THE RIBBON CUTTING

A milestone that needed to feel like one

The opening of a new facility is a milestone years in the making, and when community leaders and city council members are on hand to mark it, the images carry both civic and emotional weight. A ribbon cutting ceremony is deceptively demanding to photograph well. The moment itself is brief, but the images need to communicate something far larger: the culmination of fundraising, planning, and advocacy, and the beginning of what the space will mean for young people in Los Angeles.

With elected officials present and formal speeches marking the occasion, the coverage needed to honor the significance of the proceedings while capturing the genuine warmth of an organization rooted in service. Every speaker needed to be photographed with clarity and presence. Every gathered moment needed to tell the story of a community rallying behind Covenant House California's next chapter.

The images had to be ready for social media and press distribution the same day clean, well-lit, and strong enough to run in a news piece without editing. Speed and quality in equal measure.

THE SLEEP OUT

Photographing solidarity

The annual Sleep Out is Covenant House California's flagship fundraiser, an event where donors, business leaders, and community supporters spend a night outside to raise awareness and funds for young people experiencing homelessness. It is simultaneously a celebration of community, a vigil for those without shelter, and a powerful call to action.

The photography challenge is singular: capture the energy and warmth of an event that is also, at its heart, about empathy and solidarity. The images needed to feel purposeful and human, showing donors in their element while never losing sight of why they were there. They had to work on Instagram the morning after, and in a press release by the end of the week.

That dual brief: social-ready immediacy alongside press-quality substance shaped every shot. Candid conversations, group shots, speaker and performance moments, the atmosphere of a crowd outdoors together in the name of something bigger. All of it captured with the turnaround that Covenant House California's communications team needed.
